Why Manifestation Is Not Done (And the Three Pillars That Make It Actually Work)
A few years back, I had a conversation that I've never quite been able to shake.
I was working with a publicist in 2017. A really good one, actually. Someone who genuinely believed in what I was doing at a time when not many people did. We were pitching to the press about manifestation, trying to get it out there, trying to get people talking about it. And we kept hearing the same thing back:
"No one really knows about this yet. I think you're just too early."
I was so fucking frustrated, because I knew what this work could do. I'd watched it change my life and I knew it could change theirs.
The mainstream media just wasn't interested.
But I kept going…because what else do you do when you know something is your purpose?
Fast forward to my third book. You Are a F*cking Success, published with Penguin in 2024.
Penguin had been on my vision board as my dream publisher since 2017. The same year the press told me I was too early.
Then years later, they came to me. I
sat in a meeting with a new editor, said yes, and we made the book together.
I was convinced this was my moment. Penguin, I was told, had the best PR team in the business, the best press, the best exposure.
They didn't get me a single piece of press.
Not one podcast. Not one newspaper article. Not one radio show…nothing.
The reason they gave me?
“Manifestation is done. We've all heard it. People are bored of it.”
So first I'm too early. Now I'm too late.
I want to tell you what happened to that book anyway, because I think it says everything. It came in at number 11. I missed the Sunday Times bestseller list by 300 book sales. 300.
And I know exactly what one piece of press can do, because I've seen it first hand. With my first book, I did an interview with DJ Clara Hermit on BBC Radio London. The next day I got a phone call. The late Steve Wright, who I'd never heard of because I'm a Kiss FM girl, had been driving home from work, heard me on Clara's show, pulled his car over and told his producers to get me on his show. BBC Radio 2. Millions of listeners. My book shot straight up the charts. It became an instant bestseller, number one in multiple categories.
One interview. One piece of press. That's what 300 book sales could have been.
Of course I was gutted. But the frustration wasn't really about the numbers. It was because everyone was telling me manifestation was over, and I could see the opposite happening in real time. Celebrities were talking about it on social media. Reality TV contestants were saying "I'm just manifesting." Jim Carrey, Kim Kardashian, Drake, Will.i.am, Will Smith. People are waking up to the power of their minds in a way the world has never seen before.
We weren't at the end of something. We were at the very beginning.
I will be talking about manifestation until I'm on a Zimmer frame with my teeth falling out. Not because I'm stubborn. Because this is my purpose. And when something is your purpose, you don't walk away from it because someone in a meeting room decided the world wasn't ready.
The world is more than ready.
So let's get into the part that actually matters, because the thing that kills me is how many people are out there trying to manifest and wondering why nothing is working. And the answer, almost every single time, comes down to three things.
Think about it like building your dream house. One of my greatest manifestations, by the way, was actually building my own dream home. So this analogy lives deep in my bones.
When you build a dream house, there are three steps. And most people are skipping two of them.
Vision Architecture: The Blueprint
The first thing you do when building a house is sit with an architect and draw the plans. What's it going to look like? Every room, every detail.
Most people go to the universe with something closer to a child's drawing. A square. A triangle for the roof. A couple of rectangles for windows. And they hand that in and wonder why they get nothing back. The universe is looking at it going, "What kind of house? Where? How many bedrooms? What materials?"
When we say things like "I want financial freedom" or "I want happiness" or "I want confidence," that's the child's drawing. It's not specific. It's not clear. There's no real reason behind it.
I call this vision architecture. You're not just setting a list of goals. Your goals are what you do to get to the vision. The vision itself is what you hand to planning permission, and it needs every single detail.
And when you're drawing those plans, I need you to be honest. If you actually want six bedrooms but you write down three because you think that's more realistic or more acceptable, you're submitting plans that aren't really yours. The universe doesn't know what to do with that.
You also need clarity on your why. Desire is one of the frequencies that helps you manifest faster. If you know exactly why you want something, that desire becomes real and the universe responds to it.
The last piece is connection. Not to what looks impressive. Not to what will make you seem more successful. Real connection to what you actually want in your soul. Not your ego asking for the Range Rover because it'll look good. Your soul knowing what it truly wants, including how it wants to feel in this life.
Identity Infrastructure: The Foundations
You've got your beautiful blueprint. Now let's build.
Before anyone picks up a single tool, you need the foundations. The steelwork. The infrastructure that holds the whole building up. And this is where manifestation falls apart for most people, because they skip straight to the vision board and miss this part entirely.
Your subconscious mind is running 95% of everything you do. 95%. The conscious mind, the part that made the vision board and wrote down the goals? That's doing 5%.
So if your subconscious mind is carrying old beliefs, old stories, old identities that were formed before you were even 11 years old, those are the foundations your life is being built on. And if they're shaky, it doesn't matter how beautiful the blueprint is. A house with shaky foundations cannot stand.
It's like walking into a supermarket and asking for everything on the shelves. Then the shopkeeper points at your bag. Your tiny bag. And asks how you're going to carry any of it out.
You need the capacity to hold what you're calling in. You need your nervous system, your identity, your subconscious beliefs to be ready to receive it. Otherwise, it simply doesn't come in.
This is why you can do all the right things on the surface and still hit the same ceiling over and over again. It's not you. It's the infrastructure.
Action: Laying the Bricks
Now the builders can get to work.
You have the blueprint. You have the infrastructure. But somebody still has to lay the bricks. Somebody still has to plaster, decorate, and finish the thing. The universe is going to help you, I believe that completely. But you are the one who has to take the action. Without it, the house never actually becomes a home.
Vision. Identity. Action. That's it.
An acorn has one purpose. To become an oak tree. It's blueprinted for it, right down to its core. But if you put it in an office and hope and wish and pray for it, it is not becoming an oak tree. It needs sun, soil, and water. The conditions have to be right.
You are the acorn. Vision, identity, and action are the sun, the soil, and the water.
Every single one of you has a spiritual microchip with your purpose inside it. I would not have manifested becoming a Sunday Times bestselling author if I hadn't been completely clear on what I wanted, if I hadn't done the work on my identity and my beliefs, and if I hadn't taken the action towards it. All three had to be there.
So whatever you're trying to call in right now, check all three. Is your vision actually clear, honest, and connected to what you truly want? Is your subconscious mind ready to receive it? And are you taking the action?
Because you are never too early or too late to change your life. The press told me both of those things and they were wrong both times.
This is your life. Follow your purpose, use the process, and don't stop.
